Every time I visit a hotel, there are always things that I wish I had brought with me to make my hotel stay just a little bit nicer and more homely.
This normally happens when I stay at budget chain hotels, but sometimes it happens in the more luxurious ones as well, which is why I thought it was worth writing this article.
I’m pretty sure this has happened to other people too, so without further ado, let’s get into it!
Toilet Roll
Sometimes when I visit a hotel, they use a toilet paper dispenser, which only gives out 1 or 2 sheets of toilet paper at a time, which is fine usually but can get quite annoying.
I personally prefer to just take a roll of normal toilet paper from home in my bag as it makes it more easier and comfortable for me.
It doesn’t take much room in my bag and it’s handy if I need it also when I’m on the move.
It also comes in useful if you have any spillages.
Mini Fridge
Whenever I stay in a hotel, 9 times out 10, I will bring a drink back to my room that I have bought from a shop.
This ultimately goes warm and doesn’t taste very nice.
When I get a cold drink, if I don’t drink it straight away, it does tend to warm up, which is annoying because when I do want to drink it, I want it to be ice cold.
I have recently bought my own mini-fridge as I have asked on a few occasions, especially in the budget hotel rooms, if I can get a fridge in my room, to which they normally decline and say they can’t do that.
Sometimes they offer to store my food and drink at reception where they may sometimes have a fridge but it’s not the same.
You then have to keep going down to reception and you lose the convenience part of it.
Because mini-fridges have become much more affordable in recent times, I figured it’s best to buy one and then I can store a drink or a snack and keep it cool for a long time.
Teabags
Likewise, most hotels will provide a small selection of tea and coffee in your room.
Almost all hotels will do this.
However, if you are anything like me, you will find that there are never enough teabags and you have to keep going to reception to get more.
I usually buy a small box of teabags to take with me to the hotel.
I have found a small box is usually best because it’s enough to last me my stay in the hotel and the box isn’t too big for my bag.
Milk
So once I’ve got my mini-fridge and my box of teabags, I also try and take a small carton of milk as well.
Like with the teabags, hotels will give you a small amount of milk and they will be happy to provide more, but you have to keep going to reception to get them which can be annoying for some people.
I personally don’t like to keep going to reception asking for things like teabags and milk and whatnot so having a small carton of milk in my room that I can keep in my mini fridge makes my stay a little bit easier.
Bottled Water
Bottled water is so inexpensive these days. I usually get a big 1.5 liter bottle and keep it by my bed.
I normally get it from the supermarket before I check in as it’s very expensive to buy from the hotel if you wait and buy it when you get there.
Some hotels will give you bottled water for free, but these tend to be the more expensive, upmarket hotels.
If you’re staying at a budget hotel like a premier inn or a travellodge, for example, then you can buy water sometimes but it’s generally more expensive than the supermarket.
There have been instances where I have stayed in a hotel and the only way you could buy some bottled water was from a vending machine and the vending machine was out of order.
This is why getting some water beforehand is a wise move.
A Fan
This is normally more in the summer months, but I usually have a hand fan or a USB desk fan in my bag as well.
I have stayed in hotels where the air conditioning has broken and the room has just become unbearably hot.
Having a small fan might not seem like much, but you’ll soon notice the difference if you don’t have one.
It’s just a small thing, but can make the difference between trying to get to sleep but not being able to because it’s too hot, and being able to get to sleep and having an ok night.
There you have it!
These are some useful things to take to a hotel, hopefully, this article will have given you some ideas to make your next stay in a hotel a better one.
