One of the most popular places for families to visit in the whole of Canberra is Questacon! In fact many young Australian adults may have visited as part of a school trip to the Nation’s Capital.

What is Questacon?

Questacon is Canberra’s Science, Technology and Innovation Museum and a brilliant place to take your children or grandchildren for a day out. It’s a good educational space with lots of different interesting and hands on sections, with a good cafe too. Questacon is also popular with adults who are interested in science and tech!

When is Questacon open?

Questacon is open 9am-5pm every day of the year (apart from Christmas Day!). It can get busy in school holidays, so it’s worth booking in advance.

How much is Questacon?

To give you an idea of prices it’s around 24.50 for an adult, children age 4 – 16 years are 18.90, under 4s are free. There are family tickets available too. Best check out the Questacon website for latest prices and what works out best for your family. There are also options for annual passes which could be a good option if you are local to Canberra.

Is the Earthquake room still at Questacon?

Yes it is. If you wish to experience a recreation of low level earthquake activity you can do this at Questacon. Please note that there are certain medical advisories for this experience so please read all the information before taking part. It may not be suitable for people with certain medical conditions.

What’s the shop like at Questacon?

For those little science enthusiasts in your life or any scientist wannabe you know there are plenty of gadgets, gifts and science experiment kits for purchase in the Questacon gift shop! Some of the items can get a little pricey but there are also a range of smaller more budget-friendly items like putty and small fidget toys.

Is there a Cafe at Questacon?

Oh yes there is! One of the best things about a visit on a hot day is being able to sit down and relax in the aircon there! There are plenty of tasty food options on offer there and our family is kind of obsessed with the hot chips there (more like french fries). Yum! Your little scientists will also like the tempting treats on offer like lightbulb drinks and lollies in test tubes!

Are there toilets at Questacon?

Yes there are and they’ve always been well maintained and clean when we’ve visited.

What’s On at Questacon in 2024?

Questacon has a variety of permanent interactive exhibitions and spaces, as well as some temporary exhibitions. In April 2024 we visited the ZAP! CLANK! POW! exhibition which is running until 28th April 2024.
