The bustling Hartley Hall Markets are ideal for a Sunday stroll, especially for dog lovers, green-fingered gardeners, and families.
There’s something for everyone at the Hartley Hall markets from handcrafted items, gifts, accessories, tasty food, and a small funfair for the kids.
The historic Hall markets are organized by Hartley Lifecare charity and is one of Australia’s largest home-made goods and home-grown produce markets.
The Hall markets are usually on once a month on the 1st Sunday of the month.
The day we visited the markets there was a special Easter-themed market.
This meant that the Easter bunny was roaming around giving out free mini easter eggs, and there were easter-themed cupcakes and other Easter gifts on sale.
As well as the usual arts and crafts and gifts available.
One of the most popular items to purchase at the Hall markets at this time of year is a dog coat, as it’s Autumn and already chilly and heading for Canberra’s cold winter.
There were a couple of stalls selling warm winter dog coats with lots of interested customers.
The Hall markets are very dog-friendly with dog accessories and dog treats on sale and lots of people and their pups wandering around.
The Hall markets are a great place to go to pick up some home-grown fruit and veg, local tasty produce and look for items like house or garden plants.
With a wide range of stalls selling anything from indoor plants and succulents in pretty micro pots, to large outdoor plants to brighten up your garden or courtyard.
If you’re looking for tasty treats or foodie gifts, the market is a great place to buy artisan food products like tasty local chutneys and jams, spicey chorizo, beer snacks, the world’s tastiest nuts, cookies, cakes and more.
There are also heaps of arts and crafts to choose from, including beautiful bronze garden statues, hand-knitted baby clothes, cute doll’s clothes, toys and nik naks for children, hand-knitted clothes, crystals and more.
For pet-lovers there is plenty of choice of stalls to buy a gift for your furry friend. From designer dog collars, to cat trees, cat and dog toys and dog treats, to the extremely popular dog coats to get your pup rugged up for winter!
The Hall markets is a fun place to stroll around on a Sunday, have a look at the stalls, enjoy some tasty local food and enjoy the lively market atmosphere which has live music and plenty of sections to explore.
Are there pony rides or horse riding at the Hartley Hall markets?
No there are no horse or pony rides at the Hall markets, not at the moment anyway.
When we visited in April 2023 there were no horse or pony rides.
There used to be pony rides for children at the Hall markets, however, we were told these were halted during the Covid-19 pandemic and have not yet returned.
When are the Hartley Hall markets?
The Hartley Hall markets are usually on the 1st Sunday of the month from 10am to 3pm.

Where are the markets?
The markets are located in the lovely historical village of Hall, in the Hall Showgrounds.
Hall village is located on the Northside of Canberra.

Is there an entry fee?
Gold coin donation on entry.
Money raised goes to Canberra-based Hartley Lifecare (Hartley), a local not-for-profit organization providing supported accommodation for people with disabilities, their families, and carers.
Are there toilets at Hartley Hall markets?
There are toilets in a toilet block on the grounds, as well as public toilets in the Victoria Street playground in Hall nearby.
Hall also has a number of cafes with toilets available for café-goers.
Daughters of Hall is highly recommended for their tasty food, coffee and a beautiful gift shop.
Are there rides for children?
The Hall markets currently has a very small fun fair section which has a few stalls, like a mini side-show alley.
On our visit in April 2023 there were a few games like hook-a-duck, throwing balls into a clown’s mouth.
There used to be some small fairground rides but they weren’t there in April 2023.
At the Easter Hartley Hall market, there was a small steam train ride which was brilliant!
For a gold coin donation, you could enjoy a short ride around on the steam-powered mini land train.
The steam engine at the front had the cutest ever small coal fire!
What food and drink is available at Hartley Hall markets?
Foodies will love the Hall markets, because many of the classics are there from potato on a stick, to Dagwood Dogs, sausage sizzle, hot donuts and coffee, Thai food, Korean food and more.
This all comes at a price, of course, some few stalls have a few small samples to try like beef jerky or cheese, for the serious buyers.
The majority of stalls take card or cash.
What else is there to do in Hall?
Hall is a very pretty village to walk around and explore.
You can visit the Hall School Museum Sundays 12pm – 4pm or visit the local church.
If you wish to attend the church service it is usually held at 11am on Sundays St Michael and All Angel’s Anglican church in Hall.
For those who are keen walkers, there is a scenic walk up One Tree Hill.
The trail starts off fairly gently, but towards the end is quite steep, so you’ll need to be in good shape to get up to the top.
Once up there you will be rewarded with incredible views over the outskirts of Canberra and can see some of the emerging new suburbs.
